The Serra do Mar Ecoregion is a coastal area of the Atlantic Forest in Brazil. WWF and local partners are working in two areas within the ecoregion -- Paraíba do Sul River Basin and Mogi Guaçu River Basin -- to have at least 300 hectares brought under restoration by 2024. The basins are critical for securing freshwater for millions of people, including inhabitants of the Greater São Paulo, as well as myriad of economic activities. It is estimated that one hectare of forest in the Serra do Mar can store between 320 and 460 tons of carbon.
