The Upper Parana Ecoregion is considered a priority area for restoration due to its ecological significance. This area contained 24.8 percent of the total forest coverage remaining in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest complex in 2014. This forest is highly fragmented, but it is estimated that it can store an average of 223.5 tons of carbon per hectare.
