The finca combines many things we are looking for: suitable soils, ideal accessibility and proximity to existing projects. The finca was purchased in the beginning of 2021. The Finca is quite special due to its relatively flat terrain. Yet, its hilly enough that the drainage of the soil is adequate.
The former owner kept cattle on the land and shortly before selling it to us, dry rice was planted once. On neighbouring land, however, one can see that this use for rice is not sustainable, as it requires heavy machinery that significantly compacts the clay soils. In addition, the rice offers too little protection from the frequent heavy rains, which contributes significantly to the short- and medium-term erosion of the soil. The current use of neighbouring farms is teak plantations.
There are several adjacent plots of land in the area that could form an opportunity to expand our Generation Forests in the future.
There are currently hardly any trees on the land, which is why almost exclusively light tree species are used for reforestation. We can plant some high-demand hardwoods on the site, whose natural stocks are currently coming under massive pressure. These include species such as Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa), Spanish Cedar (Cedrela odorata) and Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla), which are threatened with extinction in the wild. The finca belongs to our project area Claritas.
Suitable Species:
Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa)
Spanische Zeder (Cedrela odorata)
Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla)
Roble (Tabebuia rosea)
Tigerwood (Astronium graveolens)
