Ally’s sweet success: A beekeeper’s journey from 5 to 42 hives

Ally Siadunka, a 40 year old, dedicated farmer from Kasenga in Mpongwe, Zambia began his beekeeping journey in 2019 with just five beehives, producing 34.2 kg in his first harvest, one year after hanging the beehives. Recognizing the potential, he steadily reinvested his earnings and now owns 42 beehives, from which he recently harvested a record 618.7 kg of comb honey with an income potential of USD 317. This is the highest yield recorded by an individual farmer this year in the Copperbelt Project. committed to continued growth, he plans to add 3–5 hives each season. Ally also hopes to inspire his 5 children by demonstrating how beekeeping can generate income while conserving forests.
