This region was deforested for agriculture and decades of unsustainable practices have led to desertification of the land. This desertification is making basic agriculture difficult leading to hunger and economic hardship for the community. We are beginning to restore this land through the planting of native pioneer tree species that will help keep moisture in the area and bring nutrients back to the soil.
