Restoring degraded land

In West Bengal and Jharkhand, about 40% of the upper ridge lands are severely degraded, leading to massive soil erosion and crop damage in lower areas. These barren lands, unfit for agriculture of any kind, are being revitalized through Tasar trees like terminalia arjuna and terminalia tomentosa. These trees restore soil health, reduce erosion, and enhance fertility through leaf litter. With deep roots that boost water retention, they make the land more resilient to drought.
