Farmers in rural areas of Laikipia are predominantly pastoralists. Their diet wholly depend on meat and milk from their cows and goats. In most cases, vegetables are bought from the markets at a high prices and sometimes its not fresh or its not available at all due to lack of cash in hand.

MOOF trains women farmers who are the sole custodian of food production and provider in the homesteads on simple drip irrigation technologies to grow their vegetables in organised self -help groups. Fresh vegetables is more nutritious, has minerals and vitamins for the young growing children of 2- 5 years of old.. This supports their development to attain their recommended height and body weight.

Many children of ages 5 years have stunted growth, and lack concentration in their studies in school due to hunger. MOOF organic vegetable production will involve training of local pastoralists to grow their vegetables for local consumption and surplus for sale to earn some income.
