Struisbaai Market Day

The primary goal of the Market Day in Struisbaai was to extend affordable and quality fish to the unique fishing community of Struisbaai. We sought to sell fish from both the South and West Coasts to this South Coast community.

Struisbaai’s Market Day Makes Waves

The engagement required meticulous planning due to the unique palate of the Struisbaai community, who are more familiar with the diverse fish species of the Cape Agulhas region. We were uncertain how the sale of unfamiliar fish species would be received in this community. However, upon our arrival, the team was graciously welcomed into the community and the Market Day was a tremendous success!

An ambitious 350 kg of fish, mainly featuring West Coast Cape Bream, a species unfamiliar to this area, was brought to the market. The Market Day commenced at 11:00 AM and saw continuous activity until it closed at 3:00 PM. Despite initial concerns, the quality and affordability of the fish impressed the community. The majority of the fish was sold during the market day, with only a few kilograms remaining, which were later sold from the local hub.

Conclusion

This event reaffirmed a crucial realization: it was not the variety of fish being sold that mattered, but rather the affordability, accessibility, and quality of the fish. The market day was a success!
