HBorbolegas: Eucalyptus Monoculture Ecological Restoration
Ecological Restoration - Eucaliptus Monoculture

Next intervention: November 2021

In addition to Eucalyptus globulus Eucalyptus with a height of up to 10/12 meters with about 50/60 years already suffering 3 to 4 cuts, there are also several species in natural regeneration (NR) within the work perimeter.

Cistus crispus stands out as the most common bush and Dittrichria viscosa right after it, with a very punctual presence of Troviscos Daphne gnidium, Gorse Ulex europaeus and the occurrence of some Asparagus Asparagus acutifolius.
With regard to trees, more than a hundred Quercus Illex holm oaks and Quercus Suber cork oaks were observed. Also some Hedgehogs Rhamnus alaternus, Wild olives Olea europaea var. sylvestris.

Myrtle Myrtus communis and Phillyrea latifolia did not exceed five specimens per species in the intervention area.
In terms of mushrooms, many Stereum ostrea, some Trametes versicolor and few Amanita phalloides were identified.

The following species were mainly used to reinforce the diversity and stratification of the native flora for the regeneration of the local ecosystem:
Stone pine Pinus Pinea, Wild pine Pinus pinaster, Cork oak, Quercus suber, Holm oak Quercus Illex, Retama monosperma, Aroeira Pistacia lentiscus, Strawberry tree Arbutus Unedo.

The species selected by ReflorestarPT fulfill two objectives:
reforestation with native species: Creating the Cork Oak Forest;
future economic yield of the area: Cork oak and Umbrella Pine.

Over the days, selective pruning was carried out on the natural "renewing trees", with forming and thieves pruning, so that they contribute to the regeneration of the ecosystem through information on new growth.
Works:
Organic matter organization, shredding existing wood into soil
pruning existing trees
seeding cover crops
planting trees and bushes (native species)

Team: 5 people, 5 days

Next intervention: November 2021 with 6 technicians
