Project
Tree nurseries & Reforestation actions with indigenous communities in the South American Great Chaco

Actually, GoForest and Alianza Wichi share a common impact vision: developing a holistic strategy where the tree
is part of a broader picture, creating added value beyond the mere fact of planting trees, because we intend to solve
multiple issues through an holistic approach:

• Generating revenues for the local communities
• Regenerating biodiversity (fauna, flora, soils, groundwater aquifers)
• Food production (direct and indirect)
• Bringing legal support to the territories in order to avoid further deforestation
• Contributing to the global fight against the effects of the climate crisis (carbon sink).
• collaborate to strengthen the social links of indigenous communities

Our 5 strategic goals are the following:

  1. Create the conditions for access to water and a healthy and varied diet, a sine qua non for their health
  2. Recover and regenerate conflicting ancestral lands, now devastated by intensive agriculture
  3. Restore the biodiversity and cultural diversity of the region, putting an end to the predation of natural resources and the
violation of the rights of these communities
  4. Guarantee the transmission of the ancestral memory of these communities (especially in terms of environmental knowledge and
    reforestation)
  5. Develop new sources of income for local communities, in connection with this territorial recovery and protection of biodiversity.
Our activities are clearly defined, and broad enough, to be able to develop the activities necessary to
    achieve our objectives
  • Regenerative agriculture projects to stimulate biodiversity and sustainable food production
  • Legal strategies for land protection and acquisition
  • Construction of basic infrastructure (buildings, water, energy)
  • Reforestation with indigenous and traditional agro-forestry techniques
  • Nursery and seed bank
  • Educational activities (workshops, seminars)
  • Multidisciplinary research and scholarships
  • Transmedia communication and dissemination of achievements
  • Development of alliances with other cultural groups and institutions in the region.
  • Fundraising and philanthropy to finance these activities

Our methodology: co-design with indigenous communities

• Our working method is directly inspired by more than three decades of fieldwork by the University of Buenos Aires
(UBA), and more specifically the Anthropology Department of Indigenous Affairs Programs.
• They have been trusted by these communities for a very long time, which allows us to co-construct with them the work
we want to do together. This is the only way to succeed and to include a multicultural perspective and use the valuable local knowledge and experience.
