Agroforestry Systems (AFS) with cocoa

Agroforestry Systems (AFS) with cocoa (Theobroma cacao) are an excellent option for productive diversification and environmental conservation of native forests, as cocoa, shade-tolerant specie, adapts very well to cultivation under the canopy of larger native trees. Additionally, being dependent on pollination mainly by insects, cocoa reinforces the importance of biodiversity in the system, increasing the productivity of fruits and seeds while contributing to the conservation of pollinators and environmental protection. This integration promotes economic and ecological benefits, making cocoa AFS a sustainable strategy for income generation and the recovery of degraded areas. Ubá, through its Jussara project in the state of Bahia, went to the Dandara Settlement to monitor and talk with the beneficiaries of our program who implement Biodiverse Cocoa plantations, generating income and biodiversity at the same time.
