The Forests for Life 3 project is an expansion of previous collaborative projects between the Greenpop Foundation and Mulanje Mission Hospital and will primarily work with community members in 5 villages surrounding Mulanje. In addition, this project aims to redress flood damage to restoration areas in the Chole Hills catchment area. The restoration project will benefit local individuals and hydrological processes through riverbank stabilisation with grasses and bamboo as well as active tree planting to stabilise soil. This will reduce run-off and potential damage from floods, thereby improving the soil quality through improved water retention and reduced erosion. Homestead trees will provide shade for households and a refuge for biodiversity. A livestock pass-on programme will distribute livestock to households in the communities which will be passed along after set periods.
