Project
Pennsylvania: Reforestation of “Legacy” surface mined lands in Appalachia
United States, Pennsylvania started 2021 Completed
Summary
In 2021, Green Forests Work and One Tree Planted worked with the Pennsylvania Game Commission (PGC) to reforest areas of SGL 029 that had been suffered a loss of ash trees by emerald ash borers, an exotic insect. There had also been windthrow in the areas so PGC performed a salvage harvest. Project partners planted 52,558 red spruce, white pine, white spruce, and balsam fir seedlings across 182 acres.
