Creating rural employment to promote reforestation!

According to the International Labour Organization of the UN, rural areas are home and workplace to half of the world’s population, and 75 percent of the world’s poor. Experience in developing countries and emerging economies demonstrate that when given proper support, farm and non-farm rural activities can thrive and be engines of growth, innovation, and attractive jobs.

At Bôndy, creating decent rural jobs is key to our success. In Andramasina, we hired a dozen staff on the field to support our activities:

  • A technician: Andry, our technician, is responsible of operations in the area. He leads the team in the tree nursery, assists and supports our partner farmers to take care of their plots, and supervises follow ups and monitoring of the trees.
  • A social mediator: Hanitra is the social mediator. She is a key player in managing the relationships with local authorities, traditional authorities, and farmer partners. She is responsible for conducting social studies or collecting feedback from local stakeholders, to better connections and activities.
  • Nurserymen: our nurserymen are our precious worker bees. Thanks to them, each year, we produce 90,000 young plants in the tree nursery. They

The team on the field is constantly in contact with the project manager, whom is also visiting them very often.

We support Andry, Hanitra and our nurserymen through decent work, as well as universal healthcare just like our HQ staff. We believe in uplifting rural populations, and acknowledge their contribution is essential to complete Bôndy's mission: reforestation all over Madagascar.
