This beautiful Ceiba tree (Ceiba pentandra) was the reason for the name of the Reserva. It is located in the center of the finca down by the creek. This deciduous species develops board roots when old and can live several hundred years. Initially, it is densely covered with pointed, cone-shaped spines, which become fewer and fewer as it ages. It is one of the largest trees in tropical forests.
