Workshop: An Introduction to ABALOBI MONITOR

ABALOBI Monitor

This workshop, the second to be held in Port St. Johns on this project, was focused on introducing the community to the use of ABALOBI Monitor as a community-centred data collection tool.

It further reinforced learnings from the previous workshop, hosted in November 2022, surrounding the use of ABALOBI Fisher app as an individual log book style data collection tool versus the ABALOBI Monitor app that is more focused on community-based catch monitoring and data reporting.

A total of 80 fishers, 10 from each cooperative attended the workshop, along with WWF, ABALOBI and two representatives from the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment.

Successful Outcomes

It is safe to say that the second workshop was a success similar to the first and we truly enjoyed the time we spent with the Port St. Johns community. The community is now thoroughly acquainted with the MONITOR app, and we are confident that they will use it effectively for its intended purposes.
