An Exchange of Knowledge

We held a fisher exchange in Muizenberg, Cape Town, between the 8 co-op leaders from Port St. Johns and 3 fishers from Lambert's Bay. The exchange involved a warehouse tour, an interactive mapping exercise and several presentations.

The workshop participants drew maps of their respective surroundings that showed the flow of catches. This mapping exercise was tremendously effective in stimulating the sharing of learnings between the two communities represented. It was also helpful in understanding how best to utilise the time of the 2 data collectors that are to be recruited in Port St. Johns to gather a representative data set.

ABALOBI hopes that community exchanges with Western Cape fishers would drive the excitement around the ABALOBI program and usage of our tools.
