Planting has commenced!

We have some very exciting updates – our project has officially begun! On April 16, a small team prepared the site for planting by digging holes for the trees. On May 3, 90 people from the community participated in a training to learn regenerative techniques such as mulching, use of organic fertilizers, and a traditional way to protect and shade seedlings by creating a barrier with dry Ravenala (traveler’s palm) leaves. They also learned about the theory behind agroforestry, as well as techniques such as the correct size of holes and planting method for each species.

During this training, community members planted 125 banana plants, 150 clove trees, and 150 Dalbergia maritima trees. The remaining clove and Dalbergia trees are being planted now, along with pineapple and coffee. The Albizia will come in last and act as a shade for coffee, vanilla, and clove.
