All ready for new seedlings in our nursery

Our large village nursery in Air Dingin, at the bottom of the map on the right is now empty. All 250,000 seedlings have been distributed to the farmers and by now all is planted out in the fields. Under FMO bank funding, we can add another 70 ha to be restored soon. So it is time to work again in the nursery and prepare all for the coming months. Men usually do the heavy work of mixing soil with goat manure as an organic fertilizer, and they carry the soil to the nursery. Preparing the small polybags with the soil and planting the seeds is a precise job. this is typical a task for the women. As it is with planting rice, the female touch is considered to bring good fortune and good germination for any seed that must be planted. At the same time, the women can earn an additional income. Around 120,000 seedlings will soon start to grow in the nursery, while some have already begun to germinate and grow. Hopefully the rains are gentle to us and continue until mid May. That would allow us to plant the seedlings in the field by April-May next year. However, with climate change this remains uncertain, so we have to wait and see. If not, the seedlings remain in the nursery, taken care of well by the farmers, and transplanted somewhere in October-November next year, when the next rainy season is in full swing again. Coffee arabica, cinnamon, timber species and avocado trees are some of the species that will grow from seeds in the nursery.
