The project now has its own tree nurseries in operation, one per pastoral unit, where plant production began in February 2024. By the beginning of July around 82 000 seedling had been raised, on track for the at least 109 000 needed for the planting season. Baobab (Adansonia digitata) seedlings like these are a particular focus among the 13 species being raised this year and make up the majority of the seedlings in all the nurseries, as they are multifunctional and very adaptable, although disappearing in the region.
