Seedlings on the move

In January, 79,635 cedar seedlings and 49,095 companion species were moved away from the nurseries where they had been dutifully cared for over the past year. Some were immediately loaded into locally woven baskets (dengus) and carried straight up the mountain by strong and sure-footed women and men from local communities. Others were loaded into trucks and driven to other strategic points around the mountain, from which they were then carried to the plateau. The seedlings rested in temporary nurseries on top of the mountain while the planting areas were prepared. During the February rains, the seedlings will settle in their new environment!
