Raising companion species

Nessa nursery has been raising Mulanje cedar seedlings since 2014, and now they have about 12,000 cedar seedlings ready to be planted out at the start of the rainy season. The restoration of the cedar is enhanced with the planting of companion species for greater ecological integrity. About 15,000 seedlings of Podocarpus milanjiana, one of these companion species, were collected from the wild forest, put into polythene tubes and raised in the nursery together with Mulanje cedar.
