The ranch has been working with ICSIAPL project and TTWCA for the last two years on improved pasture management and development of a feed reserve. Key activities and interventions undertaken are:
Development of a forage-based feeding master plan, including sustainable utilization of pastures and the land area reserved and fenced for fodder production.
Land use & grazing plans developed and implemented; capacity building of the ranch on improved grazing practices through training of BOM, management and herders on holistic grazing practices. Learning visits to Ol Pejeta in Laikipia County and to Narok County on holistic grazing management.
Sensitization of the community and other users on improved grazing and fodder production practices.
Establishment of trials in 2021 with a variety of improved forages for demonstration and testing under local agro ecological conditions (Sugargraze, Nutrifeed, Cenchrus ciliaris, Eragrostis superba, Enteropogon macrostachyus (Bushrye grass), Setaria (Foxtail grass), Brachiaria Camello, Crotalaria, Panicum Maximum Siambasa, Cowpeas, Dolichos Lablab.
Beef finishing trials with KALRO on improved forages and rations for sheep.
In 2022, upscaling of fodder trials on the 180 acres fodder plot with help of the Innovation Fund, through procurement of suitable farm machinery for conservation agriculture, fodder production, harvesting and baling or silage making.
Seeding or planting of 80 acres of grasses (Foxtail and Bushrye), Sugargraze and Nutrifeed, and legumes Cowpeas and Dolichos Lablab.
Provision of training and technical support on good management practices for soil preparation and fodder production practices.
Organisation of field days for learning by shareholders and the wider community

A business strategy that is based on improved pasture management and sustainable fodder production, assuring year-round access to forage, reducing mortality, and enhancing productivity and profitability of the operations, leading to a more resilient landscape.
Benefits for the community through increased dividends, improved linkages with Kasigau Ranch through field days, trainings, and demonstrations, buying of emaciated animals from the community, sales of hay during excess periods and buying of hay when shortage arise, sales of breeding stock, and ability of the ranch to provide machine contracting services for the community at a fee.
Implementation of a holistic grazing management plans covering a total of 50,000 areas. Holistic grazing principles are employed during grazing with support of herders.
