Mkondoni Community Water Project is a Community Based Organisation (CBO) that receives bulk water supply from Kilifi Mariakani Water and Sewerage Company (KIMAWASCO) through an offtake distribution system to supply to the Mkondoni community. The water supply system is managed board elected by the local community and supplies water to 160 metered household connections and 25 communal water kiosks.
SNV supported structuring and signing of a delegation management model between Kilifi Mariakani Water and Sewerage Company (KIMAWASCO) and Mkondoni Water Project for sustainable management of the water system. Under the delegation contract, Mkondoni Community Water Project receives bulk water supply from KIMAWASCO through an offtake distribution system to supply to the Mkondoni community. Under the contract, KIMAWASCO shall supervise Mkondoni’s operations and offer technical support to ensure compliance and improve efficiency.
SNV trained the water committee on financial and technical management. The training focused on financial planning and management including budgeting, bookkeeping and revenue collection, WUA governance, current legal framework for provision of water services.
We also supported signing of service contract between the water project and Rural Water Management Solutions (K) Limited (RUWASCO), a local social enterprise and technology provider, for provision of a computerised billing system. The system has enabled automation of water billing and revenue collection processes.
