RMTerra (Reflorestação da Mãe Terra) was founded in Portugal in 2017 after wildfires devastated forests, farmland, and communities. The founder, Pedro Marques, began as a volunteer, organizing reforestation and climate activism with local associations creating 15 nursury hubs on a nacional level.
The project expanded nationwide, producing educational materials to inspire communities to restore ecosystems using fire-barrier and agroforestry principles. Despite bureaucratic obstacles, more than 20,000 native trees have been planted on private land over 4 years, entirely by volunteers.
In 2021, blockchain and Web3 were introduced to ensure transparency and digital impact tracking. In 2022, the non-profit Earthcare Association was created, and international partnerships were formed (Kodadot – Czech Republic, RMRK – Croatia, Treedefi – USA, Koenig Basis – Germany, Shokunin Network – Germany, Digital Gaia – USA). That same year, RMTerra was a finalist at the NYC.NFT Awards and launched the Data Grow Lab in North Portugal.
In this present we count with this projects and growing.
