The Generation Forest - Planting Permanent Forests in Panama
Site
Finca Margarito Banda - Nicanor
Reforestation 65,32 ha

On this land, a forest area was cut down about 30 years ago to create pasture land. Precious woods such as cocobolo, balsamo, amarillo, guayaquil, etc. were burned. The goal was to raise cattle. So far, the land still serves as cow pasture. There is good access via an unpaved 6 km public road. Sections should be paved with stones. Furthermore, 1200 m of gravel road need to be made to ensure access all year round. The finca has no internal roads. In the surrounding area there are teak plantations and few livestock farms.

The soil conditions are slightly hilly, well drained and machinable. The soils have a loamy texture with vertical characteristic horizons. There is medium to high fertility. The finca is crossed by a large stream and has advanced erosion processes. Important soil conservation work needs to be done.

The finca is not located near protected areas and no conflicts with neighbors have been observed. The land is technically suitable and shows good characteristics of relief, soil and climate. The finca is adjacent to other cooperative properties, and there are other fincas in the area that can be acquired. The establishment of a generational forest would be good to enhance the forest effect.
