Harvesting oysters the sustainable way

Collecting oysters from mangroves can sometimes lead to cuts and other damage to the roots. In this picture, the projects livelihoods' partner Eclosio is providing training in sustainable production techniques to the women involved in the project. The technique - which enables the women to grow oysters instead of simply collecting them - involves identifying a site where oysters are already present, installing a frame made from dead wood, and stringing old, empty oyster shells along it. Baby oysters will settle in these shells and grow.
