The Institute of Ecotechnics is a non-profit organization whose work is to promote and undertake research and education in the emergent field of ecotechnics. Currently, the Institute consults with a range of innovative projects across biomes including: a rainforest reforestation project in Puerto Rico; an ocean-going Chinese junk research vessel; an organic farm, orchard, and land restoration project in the high semi-arid plains of New Mexico; and an art gallery in London’s Bloomsbury district exhibiting transvangarde artists from around the world. The Institute's Wastewater Gardens International division uses constructed wetlands to addresses the global challenges associated with wastewater management. It focuses on three key issues: the contamination of drinking and freshwater supplies in countries lacking sewage treatment, leading to high disease-rate, poverty and death, the contamination of coastal areas leading to rapid eutrophication, rendering those key areas for fish reproduction no longer available and finally the waste of resources, high cost, fragility and environmental impact that 'conventional' non-Nature based sewage treatment plants represent. Our past activities have included the scientific coordination of the ground-breaking Biosphere 2 project.
