Green Earth Warriors (GEW) is a youth-led organization legally registered under Laikipia County Social Services as a community-based organization. It was ideally formed to restore degraded landscapes and provide alternative livelihood in Isiolo and Laikipia counties. Degradation in this context refers to and is not limited to bare lands, and gulley formation because of soil erosion and invasive species. The erosion carries top fertile soil, and the land becomes vulnerable to climate change and the formation of hard pans. The organization has undertaken various activities in restoration, digging of semi-circular bunds and regreening techniques, gulley healing, and uprooting invasive species. The Semi-circular bunds slow the runoff that would otherwise fuel the formation of gulley, trapping it and allowing it to infiltrate into the ground and increase the soil moisture thus easing the germination of the perennial grass seeds and having a cooling effect. Community engagement is key to sustainability
