About

Help us conserve the habitat of monarch butterflies, the second most important pollinator in North America. With your donations we build agronomic gardens that help local people to grow vegetables for their own consumption and that of the butterflies during the butterfly migration months.

Who are we?
Ruta Monarca is an initiative founded in 2000 by FUNACOMM A.C. (Fundación Nacional para la Conservación del Hábitat Boscoso de la Mariposa Monarca) with the aim of carrying out the necessary actions for the conservation of the Monarch butterfly, through the environmental and sustainable development of its migratory route.

Our project has a high relevance in human life, since without the Monarch butterfly, we put hundreds of species and natural habitats of North America adrift. This is because monarch butterflies are the second most important pollinator on the continent and in the last 10 years the number of butterflies arriving at their final destination has dropped by 95% year after year. This is mainly due to climate change, deforestation and the use of pesticides. Additionally, this project was designed not only to be a great ecological accelerator for the planet, but also to be the source of gastronomic and economic resources for many families that help the conservation of the monarch butterflies.

What are we looking for?
With your support we seek to continue creating agro-economic gardens to help improve the terrifying mortality figures of monarch butterflies on their long migratory journey.

Thanks to your support we will be able to create a positive impact on the ecology of our planet and save thousands of pollinating butterflies. In addition, you help us to transform the lives of hundreds of families to improve their situation of extreme poverty.

Our objectives:
ENVIRONMENTAL
To make optimal use of natural resources which are a fundamental element of sustainable development, maintaining essential ecological processes and helping to reduce negative effects, as well as conserving natural resources and biological diversity.

SOCIO-CULTURAL
Respect the socio-cultural authenticity of local host communities, preserve their cultural heritage, customs and traditional values, thus contributing to intercultural understanding and tolerance.

ECONOMIC
To ensure viable long-term economic activities and well-distributed socio-economic benefits, which generate stable employment opportunities, income and services for host communities, contributing to poverty reduction.
