Restoration of High Altitude Forests in Ccorca

Project Area
The project is developed in coordination with the communities of Cusibamba and Huayllay in the district of Ccorca, which is situated in the province of Cusco, Peru. The overall objective is to restore degraded areas by carrying out afforestation campaigns with native Polylepis species suitable for the area.

Project Goals
The project has a goal to produce and plant a total of 60,000 seedlings between Polylepis incana and Polylepis racemosa. Other conservation activities include:

  • Construction of a communal nursery and training of local managers that will be responsible for overseeing production of seedlings.
  • Awareness and education workshops to increase the knowledge of local people on the importance of protecting and restoring the landscape.
