Our concept of the Socially Responsible Plantation has developed over time as the difficulties of trying to establish an industrial plantation in the Ethiopian highlands became more and more apparent. Land in the highlands is at a premium, and so each and every parcel of land, whether legally allocated or not, is worked by local people. We therefore came up with the socially responsible concept to create a win-win solution for the smallholders, the local economy, and African Bamboo.
