Arbegona has an estimated population of 152,333 citizens distributed over a total area of 319 km². About 8,136 people live in an urban setting, approximately 6,745 of which live in Yaye town. The majority of people however live in rural areas (i.e. 95% or 144,197 people, spread across approximately 28,840 households). Population density of the district is 479 citizens per km², which is one of the most densely populated districts in Sidama region. Altitude ranges between 2,500m – 3,000 m.

In terms of bamboo, Arbegona has six bamboo cooperatives, namely: Hodamo Tulicha, Dela, Honcho, Bololisa, Shariche, and Shafamo with an estimated 685 members.
