Summary
To conserve their forest the indigenous people of Alalapadu needed a sustainable alternative to be able to comply with their financial needs. After an analytic study done by the Berkeley’s University in 2016 the community started a Brazilian nut community enterprise in collaboration with Conservation International Suriname. This will help the villagers contribute to the conservation of the 7.2 million-hectare forest in South Suriname and refrain from logging and gold mining.
