The aim of the non-profit and politically independent association Transparency International is to fight corruption. Its basic principles are integrity, accountability, transparency and participation of civil society. Transparency International defines corruption as follows: "Corruption is the abuse of entrusted power for private gain or advantage." To fight it, the association builds coalitions with governments, administrations, companies and civil society groups that represent a "trustworthy, transparent, values-based and civil democratic political culture".
