Eric Domínguez, who comes from generations of cattle ranchers, has seen the effects of deforestation firsthand.

“Our generation has made a serious mistake, but we still have time to correct it.”

But the story doesn't end there.

The cattle ranchers of the Azuero are ready to bring the forests back.

With the help of Earthshot and our partners at Pro Eco Azuero, Eric is taking steps to protect the biodiversity and nature on his land.

"More than anything, we need to reforest the existing watersheds on our lands," Dom Eric told us, "because if we lose the water we lose everything."

Although his ancestors didn’t have a chance to change their practices, reforesting and restoring the land has given him newfound hope to establish a more harmonious rhythm with nature. And to heal that land that provides for him and his family. “Reforestation was not encouraged in those days. But it’s not too late to start.”
