The project seeks to create a demand for riparian tree and bush species and stimulate planters who have streams flowing through coffee lands to protect their watercourses and enrich the riparian buffers through protection.
This is phase 1 of the project, so our primary effort has been to get planters on board using a popular Instagram page that we have created. We are in the process of moving from awareness to behaviour change, which takes time and patience.
To get to the next level, we need to supplement the existing plant nurseries run by the Forest Department by growing riparian species and to work with 2-5 planters to restore their buffers as experimental plots. This is a 10 year project, and doing it right is key.
