Cintai Mersing

Cintai Kepulauan Mersing is a marine conservation programme that began in 2020. The programme's overall goal is to improve ocean health by increasing reef resilience and reducing threats to marine biodiversity from plastic pollution.

This project covers Sibu, Tinggi, Pemanggil, Aur and Besar Islands that are located in Mersing, Johor.

The project emphasizes increasing local community and stakeholders' participation in the conservation and management of coral reefs, and the management of plastic waste in the Mersing group of islands.

Cintai Kepulauan Mersing's core programmes are protecting the coral reefs in Mersing by mapping the reefs, monitoring the coral reefs’ health, conducting predator removal and reef cleanup, promoting sustainable tourism for Mersing, implementing waste management programme on the different islands with the communities, capacity building of the communities to promote skills and livelihood that do not solely rely on the marine ecosystems and conducting regular school and community awareness programmes.
