Beyond Carbon

This project’s impact goes beyond carbon sequestration. It plays a vital role in empowering communities and enhancing livelihoods, making a significant difference on both environmental and social levels.

The silk-host trees (Terminalia arjuna & Terminalia tomentosa) are a valuable part of the local silk production chain. Local communities can generate a regular income by rearing silkworms in the planted forests. The project offers training in technical and entrepreneurial skills, enabling women to take on key roles in the value chain. Women now make up 90% of employment created within the value chain, taking leadership from local stakeholder consultations to production. By providing stable income through Tasar rearing, this initiative offers a sustainable livelihood for marginalized households, uplifting entire communities.
