Our partner TONTOTON is the first company worldwide certified under the Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP) Neutrality Standard. Under this standard, ocean-bound plastic waste is collected adequately and ethically, ensuring responsible practices throughout the process. Commercially recyclable ocean-bound plastic waste remains traceable from collection to the final recycled product, ensuring transparency and accountability. Non-commercially recyclable ocean-bound plastic waste is handled correctly, with the corresponding plastic credits thoroughly verified and traceable, reinforcing confidence in the ethical and sustainable management of all types of ocean-bound plastic waste.
The Social+ OBP component, a valuable addition to this project, is designed to bring significant benefits to the community. It supports organizations that go beyond conventional practices, engaging with communities in more ethical ways, and offers a variety of direct and indirect benefits comparable to those of formal employment.
This includes offering means and concrete solutions to keep children off work. The program also grants workers increased bargaining power and representativeness within the organization, fostering a fair and equitable work environment. It provides development opportunities through actionable training, helping workers gain new skills. Occupational health and safety standards are improved, creating a safer and healthier work environment. The initiative guarantees improved and traceable income, with regular payments and proof of earnings, enhancing financial stability and transparency. Furthermore, it supports workers with the administrative and economic aspects of their daily lives, making it easier to manage their responsibilities.
These combined efforts ensure a holistic approach to sustainability, empowering communities and protecting the environment from ocean-bound plastic waste.
