MOOF Annex Demonstration Farm - Nanyuki
Agriculture Agroforest Conservation

Smallholder farmers envisage to use low cost greenhouse for production of high value crops. MOOF Africa uses a 2 acres farm to demonstrate on new interventions for smallholder farming in Kenya. On the new site we are demonstrating the construction of low cost greenhouses build from cheap low cost wooden poles. These are sourced locally and they are cut- and -come again. These are farmed on farmers farms. The use of poles works as an alternative from using timber which is usually sourced from forests. This practices causes a lot of forest degradation . Planting of building poles helps to restore and regenerate forests and prevent forest degradation. MOOF works with youth with a hint in carpentry trade and they are supervised to master the greenhouse construction skills using wooden poles and posts. Farmers use the greenhouses to plant high value crops including in lettuce's, tomatoes, strawberries, raspberries and herbs for local markets . This will expand to include fish farming. The fish target includes Tilapia, trout, salmon , cat fish and shrimps. Pole greenhouses will also be used as tree and fruit nurseries in the future.
