The technical assistance component of the EU funded - Ending Drought Emergencies: Climate Proofed Infrastructure for Improved Water Supply and Sanitation in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (EDE-CPIRA) programme seeks to address the challenges of rural water systems functionality and improve the climate resilience of the communities in eight counties namely: Kitui, Kilifi, Baringo, Samburu, Taita Taveta, Kajiado, Mandera and West Pokot Counties. SNV aims to achieve this by leveraging commercial incentives through Public-Private-Community Partnerships (PPCPs) to enhance the professionalization and private investment into the water sector thereby stimulating the growth and sustainability of these services.

SNV has facilitated the signing of eight (8) PPCPs between Water Service Providers and community managed water systems in Kitui (2) Baringo (3), West Pokot (1), Kilifi (1) and Taita Taveta (1). The PPCPs signed were Delegated Management Models, Professional Manager and Operations and Maintenance Service Contracts. In structuring the partnerships, the respective County Governments and the Water Sector Trust Fund were involved to support in oversight and financing roles. To enhance the capacity of the Counties, communities and WSPs, we continue rolling out tailored trainings on governance, compliance, record keeping, financial management, operation and maintenance; and continuously monitor the gains and progress made from the partnerships.
