Project
Ejido Basaseachi

The project aims to enhance carbon sequestration and promote sustainable forest management in the Ejido Basaseachi, Ocampo, Chihuahua, Mexico. The project is designed to increase carbon stocks through reforestation, forest conservation, and sustainable land management practices, contributing to climate change mitigation while providing socio-economic benefits to the local community. The project area spans 6,249.15 hectares within the Ejido Basaseachi, located in the municipality of Ocampo, Chihuahua, Mexico. This area is part of the physiographic province III Sierra Madre Occidental. The baseline scenario is defined by the existing forest management practices before the project's implementation. The project is additional because it introduces enhanced forest management activities that surpass the "business as usual" scenario, leading to greater carbon sequestration and improved forest health. The project commits to maintaining the sequestered carbon for a period of 100 years. This long-term commitment is ensured through adherence to the Protocolo Forestal para México, which mandates continuous monitoring and reporting to prevent reversals. The project adheres to the Protocolo Forestal para México Version 3.0. It uses the CALCBOSK tool for accurate quantification of greenhouse gas emissions and removals. The project includes comprehensive monitoring of carbon stocks in live trees, deadwood, and forest products. The project is designed to deliver multiple co-benefits. Socially, it involves local communities in decision-making processes, ensures equitable benefit distribution, and supports local livelihoods. Environmentally, it enhances biodiversity by protecting native species and forest ecosystems. The project also implements safeguards to minimize adverse impacts on soil and water resources. The project employs a robust MRV approach, including periodic field assessments, data collection, and verification using standardized tools like CALCBOSK. This ensures transparency and accountability in reporting carbon sequestration outcomes. Additionally, the project has established comprehensive governance structures, including the formation of a project coordination team and the involvement of stakeholders through regular assemblies and capacity-building sessions. This governance framework ensures the project's sustainability and community support over the long term.
