Peñon expansion 2022
Fourth expansion of El Silencio: Peñon del Caballo

With support of Rainforest Trust and American Bird Conservancy, we expanded the reserve in 533 ha more, totalling 3366 ha of El Silencio Management Area. With the acquisition of this plot, we secure 83% of the largest forest patch in the region (nearly 2.791). Our surveys have confirmed the presence of all key species of the middle-Magdalena ecosystem, such as the Blue-billed curassow (CR, endemic), the Brown spider monkey (CR, near-endemic), the Silvery-brown Tamarin (VU, endemic), the Jaguar (NT), the Lowland Tapir (VU), and nearly 75 migratory bird species, as well as threatened hardwood timber trees. The forest also protectes part of El Tablazo wetland, benefiting several key aquatic species.
