We help to value the non-timber benefits of the forest

The Nature Fund together with the Lääne-Harju Cooperation Council and the Estonian Private Forest Association participates in the international project "Enclaves of Life". Project is being done with partners in Poland and the Czech Republic to ensure that landowners are able to pay more attention to the non-timber values of the forest.

As a result of the project, which started in 2019, guidance materials for small landowners will be completed in 2023 to help them provide various ecosystem services - for example, enhancing forest lands (chaga and other mushrooms), developing hiking trails ) or activities that contribute as much as possible to carbon sequestration.

At the end of April, twenty six people involved in the project visited Estonia for the second time, where they conducted study visits, met with experts and exchanged experiences.

In Estonia, several pilot areas are being considered within the framework of the “Enclaves of Life” project, on the basis of which the accumulated knowledge will become the basis for the guidance material to be created. There are similar pilot areas in Poland and the Czech Republic.
