Epson joins Forests Forward to improve its forest footprint and help conserve forests

Multinational electronics company, Seiko Epson Corporation, accelerates its responsible sourcing journey by participating in WWF’s flagship programme for corporate action on forests.

One of the world’s largest manufacturers of printers and other electronic equipment and a retailer of paper products, Epson is reliant on forests for its business. The Japanese company has committed to taking positive steps to address its environmental footprint and help ensure a responsible supply of forest resources.

Through Forests Forward, WWF is supporting Epson to improve the responsible sourcing of forest products in Epson’s supply chain, including by strengthening procurement policies, engaging the company’s value chain stakeholders to improve traceability, and developing a robust due diligence system.

Epson is the first Asian company to participate in Forests Forward. It has also committed to the Taskforce for Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), registering as a ‘TNFD Adopter’ in June 2024.

This builds upon a three-year partnership between WWF-Japan and Epson, launched in 2023, which contributes 1.6 million Euros to WWF’s forest conservation and restoration efforts at several deforestation fronts worldwide, including in: Indonesia, the Greater Mekong, Australia, Brazil and Ghana.

“It’s great to have Epson join the Forests Forward fold," said Tim Cronin, WWF Forests Forward Global Lead. "We can’t address forest loss and degradation globally without transformational change across the Asia-Pacific region. We look forward to working closely with Epson as we expand our work in this critical region, to recognize and incentivize forest conservation, restoration and sustainable management.”

“At Epson, we recognize that forests are vital natural resources that support life and play an important role in our products and services. Joining WWF’s Forests Forward programme is a natural extension of our long-standing commitment to responsible sourcing and environmental stewardship. Through this collaboration, we aim to strengthen the traceability and sustainability of forest-derived materials across our supply chain, while contributing to global forest conservation and restoration efforts. As the first Asian company to join Forests Forward, we are proud to work closely with WWF to drive meaningful change in the region and beyond.”
