Fazenda Julia

Cabrucas are essential for the conservation of biodiversity in the region. This traditional agroforestry approach makes it possible to harmonize species conservation and human wellbeing. Cabrucas are the home to a unique fauna of amphibians and reptiles whose diversity is among the highest in the world. The region is classified as an Important Bird Area. Endangered golden-headed lion tamarins inhabiting the cabruca and and forest of the fazenda. By investing in the biodiversity-friendly production of cocoa, we are contributing to the conservation of this unique species richness.
Fazenda Julia is situated directly on the Almada River and covers 152 hectares. A large part of the fazenda is dominated by abandoned cattle pastures. Only 2 hectares are Cabruca-Agroforest. We are planning to reforest 50 hectares of these cattle pastures with Cabruca to restore ecosystem functions, enable biodiversity to recover and to generate income for local families.
