Forests for Life 2: Kraaibosch Forest Restoration Project

Kraaibosch Restoration Project: Site A
Natural Forest Reforestation 0,11 ha

This is the first project site for the Kraaibosch Forest Restoration project. The entire region suffered from severe wildfires in 2017. The intensity of the fires was greatly magnified by the presence of invasive vegetation across the landscape.

At Pachamama Forest Retreat, the first site for the Kraaibosch Forest Restoration Project, the fire destroyed hectares of Pine, Eucalyptus and Black Wattle species. This created an opportunity and need for increased focus on invasive vegetation control and indigenous restoration to assist in the recovery of indigenous vegetation and local biodiversity

The site was cleared of burned and regrowing invasive vegetation in May 2020 and active reforestation through indigenous tree planting began in June 2020.

In total, 0.4 hectares of invasive vegetation were cleared at this site and 2000 indigenous trees planted.
