The recent ABALOBI Open Day was not merely a gathering but a celebration of sustainable fishing practices and community empowerment. At the forefront of this event was the initiative to provide access to high-quality, affordable fish through ABALOBI's Food Security program.
The Open Day featured various stations, each focused on a specific tool, topic, or experience. Among them, the Food Security station took center stage, offering community members the opportunity to purchase nutritious seafood sustainably sourced from small-scale fishers. Over 700 kg of fish was sold on the day, feeding an estimated 350 mouths.
ABALOBI’s Food Security program aims to address food security concerns within the community while simultaneously supporting the livelihoods of local fishers. Attendees were able to access affordable, high-quality fish, ensuring that nutritious food options were within reach for all.
The response from the community was overwhelmingly positive, with attendees praising the quality and reasonable prices of the fish available. By providing access to nutritious food options sourced from local fishers, ABALOBI is not just selling fish, but also providing an example of how doing so responsibly can encourage sustainable practices and support communities.
