Buffeljagsbaai

Buffeljagsbaai is a small, very rural fishing hamlet on the south coast of South Africa, approximately 30 km beyond Gansbaai. For over 100 years a handful of families have called this home, living in wooden houses one row deep, huddled just above the high-tide mark along the rocky coastline. Known for its very rich kelp beds, perlemoen (abalone) and giant alikreukals, Buffeljagsbaai is now home to the Blinkwater Co-operative. This co-operative comprises a small group of linefishers and women harvesters who were born in Buffeljagsbaai and have lived here all their lives, depending on the sea and inter-tidal zone for their livelihoods.
